A calling born from the soul

Bullfighting didn’t come into David de Miranda’s life by chance – it was something he felt deep within from a young age. Raised in the town of Trigueros, in the heart of the Huelva province, he soon became familiar with the rhythms of the countryside and the legends of the bullring. His calling was forged in silence, among training sessions and dreams, until he fully committed himself to the art of toreo.

Training and bullfighting school

David began his formal journey at the Huelva Bullfighting School – a place where values like dedication, respect and technical precision are instilled in the skin and soul of aspiring matadors. Under the guidance of professionals who recognised his calmness and strength, he developed a style rooted in sober courage and understated honesty.

Milestone moments in top-tier arenas

On 5 August 2016, during the Colombinas Fair in his hometown of Huelva, David experienced the most important day of his career: he took his alternativa, stepping into the professional ranks of bullfighting. The ceremony was led by none other than José Tomás – a legendary figure in the bullfighting world – with López Simón acting as witness. David cut two ears from the bull of his debut, from the prestigious Victoriano del Río ranch, marking a historic day and launching his career through the front gate.

Three years later, on 24 May 2019, he confirmed his alternativa in the most demanding arena in the world: Las Ventas in Madrid. The lineup included El Juli as godfather and Paco Ureña as witness. It was a memorable afternoon in which David cut two ears from the sixth bull, by Juan Pedro Domecq, and left through the Puerta Grande – a clear sign that he had arrived as one of the sport’s rising stars.

Career highlights and recent triumphs

The 2024 season has confirmed David de Miranda as one of the most consistent and respected matadors on the current circuit. In 15 appearances, he has cut 37 ears and achieved 2 tail awards, leaving a lasting impression in every arena.

One of the year's standout moments came at Seville’s Feria de Abril, where he came close to entering the famous Puerta del Príncipe after cutting two ears from an outstanding bull by Santiago Domecq. He also returned triumphantly to his home ring, Las Colombinas in Huelva, where he faced six bulls from different ranches in a solo event. That afternoon, he achieved the rare honour of pardoning a brave bull by José Luis Pereda and was awarded seven ears and one tail.

Equally impressive was his performance in Utrera (Seville), where he pardoned another bull – this time from Lagunajanda – and collected four ears and a tail. Other remarkable evenings came in Olvera (Cádiz) and Niebla (Huelva), where he cut four ears and two tails on each occasion, as well as in Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz) and Montoro (Córdoba), where he took three ears and two tails per event.

A dream confirmed: his finest performance

If there’s one performance that captures the essence of David de Miranda’s career, it’s the one from 24 May 2019 in Madrid. That day, he didn’t just confirm his alternativa – he confirmed his dream. Facing a bull by Juan Pedro Domecq and with the crowd at Las Ventas fully engaged, he delivered a measured, brave and moving performance, ending with a brilliant final sword strike. The two ears he was awarded earned him the honour of exiting through the Puerta Grande, cementing his status as a matador to watch, both now and in the future.

Style and personality

David de Miranda is a matador with a clear gaze, calm expression and steely inner strength. His bullfighting style is pure, direct and sincere – without unnecessary flourishes, but full of truth. He gives everything in the ring, with a bold, composed manner and a natural grace that immediately connects with the audience. He has that special something that can’t be taught: charisma, depth, and an instinctive ability to move and inspire.
