Bulls Zaragoza. El PIlar

The Bullring of Zaragoza celebrates the festivities of the Virgen del Pilar in October. La Misericordia is always full during the last great fair of the Spanish season.

When is Pilar Fair celebrated?

Pilar Fair takes place around October 12, the day of the Virgen del Pilar, patroness of Zaragoza, Aragon, the Civil Guard and, in addition, the National Day for Hispanic Heritage Day. The dates change each year depending on the 12th, occupying the previous and subsequent weekend and extending nine days.

Zaragoza Pilar Fair 2024

The Pilar 2020 will begin on Saturday, October 10 and end on Sunday, October 18; so we can enjoy nine celebrations between bullfights, steer-bullfights and horse-bullfights; and many other popular bullfighting celebrations.

Why is Pilar Fair so important?

As we have said, it is the last great bullfighting fair. La Misericordia is the place chosen by many of the bullfighting figures to close their season and also the great triumphs in Zaragoza begin to shape the next campaign. In the bullring of Pignatelli (well known colloquially for whom it was built and whose street it occupies, Ramón Pignatelli) with more than 250 years of history, we see each year the toast of the bullfighters to their crews in gratitude for the year that ends.

Declared of National Tourist Interest since 1965, the ‘Pilares’, as they are also known, represent a great tourist attraction whose history dates back to the early nineteenth century, when Pope Pius VII established the feast of the Virgen del Pilar on October 12.
