Gijón, at the heart of bullfighting: a star-studded line-up with Morante, Roca Rey and Juan Ortega facing Núñez del Cuvillo
On Saturday 16th August at 6:30 p.m., Gijón’s bullring will host one of the standout events of its season — a truly special occasion featuring bulls from Núñez del Cuvillo for Morante de la Puebla, Roca Rey and Juan Ortega. This top-class trio brings together artistry, power and tradition in the arena, as part of the Feria of Our Lady of Begoña.
The bulls from Núñez del Cuvillo, a favourite among Spain’s leading matadors, return to the Asturian ring with their unmistakable style: bravery, elegance and excitement. Known for their quality and showmanship, these bulls have starred in some of the most memorable afternoons in the country’s major bullrings.
Heading the bill is Morante de la Puebla, the genius from La Puebla del Río, who is currently enjoying one of the finest seasons of his career. With unforgettable performances and historic afternoons in Spain’s top arenas, Morante arrives in Gijón in peak artistic and emotional form, fully inspired.
Joining him is Roca Rey, the most in-demand bullfighter of the moment, renowned for his commitment and ambition in every appearance. His connection with the crowd is electric, and his presence in Gijón promises drama, passion and spectacle.
Completing the line-up is Juan Ortega, a Sevillian matador who embodies classical bullfighting at its finest. Known for his calm style and impeccable taste, Ortega has become a reference point for fans who appreciate refined, elegant toreo.
