Adrián Reinosa: from bullfighting school to the dream of making his mark

Some careers are built on memorable afternoons, whilst others begin much earlier, when a young lad realises he wants to face a young bull and discovers that this passion goes far beyond a mere whim. Adrián Reinosa’s story falls into the latter category: that of those who start from the bottom, learn the trade and strive to carve out a place for themselves in a profession where opportunities are never guaranteed.

A native of Ruidera, in the province of Ciudad Real, Reinosa trained at the bullfighting schools in Alcázar de San Juan and Albacete, two key stages in his apprenticeship as a bullfighter. His early days were spent on the novillada circuit and in practical training sessions – a vital setting for young bullfighters to hone their skills, gain experience and begin to show their character in the face of the bull.

And that is precisely where we should pause for a moment. Because when we talk about a novice bullfighter, it is not enough simply to count the ears cut off or the times he has been carried out on the shoulders of the crowd. We must also look at how a bullfighter develops, what he learns each afternoon, and to what extent he is capable of turning that initial enthusiasm into a well-founded career.

Origins and calling: the birth of a classic bullfighter

Originally from Ruidera and with links to the Alcázar de San Juan Bullfighting School, it was precisely there that he began to develop the skills needed to make his way up the novillero ranks. He also attended the Albacete Bullfighting School.

His approach to bullfighting has one particularly interesting feature: a taste for classical bullfighting. In an interview published in *Guarismo del Ocho*, Reinosa described himself as an ambitious bullfighter, demanding of himself and with a clear inclination towards traditional styles. He spoke of the importance of purity, but also of accepting failure as part of the learning process.

That mindset says a great deal about his understanding of the profession. In bullfighting, talent may open a door, but it is the ability to overcome difficult afternoons that allows one to keep seeking another opportunity. Reinosa has demonstrated precisely that determination to progress, aware that a novice bullfighter’s path is built one afternoon at a time.

Career and achievements: evenings that leave a lasting impression

Adrián Reinosa’s first significant achievements came in novilladas without picadors, where he began to make a name for himself in various promotional events. One of his most notable triumphs took place in Belvís de la Jara (Toledo), where he cut off two ears in a novillada featuring bulls from Mariano Arroyo.

Another significant afternoon took place in Manzanares, as part of the ‘Promesas de Nuestra Tierra’ competition. Facing young bulls from Conde de Mayalde, Reinosa secured three trophies in a performance that reinforced his standing on the circuit of novilladas without picadors. It was one of those opportunities where a young bullfighter can demonstrate that he has what it takes to aspire to new engagements.

His development continued until he reached a decisive milestone in any novillero’s career: his debut with picadors. Reinosa made his debut in this category on 22 July 2023 at the La Solana bullring (Ciudad Real), with young bulls from Los Chospes and sharing the bill with Víctor Acebo, Carla Otero, Víctor Cerrato, Miguel Serrano and Mario Honrubia.

Now competing on the circuit with picadors, his career has continued to feature a series of memorable afternoons. In Almodóvar del Campo, on 28 June 2025, he cut one ear from his first novillo and two from the second – a result that confirmed his ability to capitalise on opportunities when the bulls and circumstances allow him to express his style.

Adrián Reinosa’s concept: classicism, ambition and personality

What is Adrián Reinosa seeking when he stands before the bull? His own description points towards classical bullfighting – a way of interpreting the fight in which positioning, composure, naturalness and the ability to guide the charge with depth are key.

This aspiration should not be confused with a finished work. Reinosa is a bullfighter who is constantly evolving, and that is precisely where part of the interest in his career lies: in observing how he transforms the lessons learnt at school, his experiences in the countryside and his performances in the bullring into an increasingly personal style.

The novice bullfighter has also spoken openly about the pressure involved in bullfighting, especially when performing in front of the cameras. During his first televised appearances, he acknowledged that the nerves in the hours leading up to the event could take their toll, although the bull’s emergence helped him to focus on what really mattered. A simple confession, yet one that reveals what lies behind the bullfighter’s costume.

And there is another of his reflections that deserves attention: his defence of novilladas as the foundation for ensuring the next generation of bullfighters. Reinosa has emphasised the need to give young people opportunities. This is no minor issue. Without novilladas, many aspiring bullfighters are unable to demonstrate their abilities; without opportunities, the pool of talent loses strength and the future of the bullfighting ranks is jeopardised.

Curiosities and defining traits

•    His full name is Adrián Reinosa Parra. His career is closely linked to Ruidera and the province of Ciudad Real.

•    He trained at two bullfighting schools. His apprenticeship took him to Alcázar de San Juan and Albacete, a crucial stage in his technical development.

•    He considers himself a classic bullfighter. In his statements, he has expressed a preference for traditional methods and his ambition to continually improve.

•    He emphasises the importance of nurturing young talent. He has championed novilladas as an essential part of enabling up-and-coming bullfighters to make their mark.

How far can Adrián Reinosa go?

Sometimes, the most interesting thing about a novice bullfighter is not what he has already achieved, but what remains to be discovered. Trophies allow us to measure results; his approach, personality and ability to develop help us understand what might lie behind them.

Adrián Reinosa has shown that he knows how to make the most of important afternoons and that he has a vision of bullfighting which he aims to develop from a classical foundation. The next challenge is to turn those flashes of brilliance into consistency, to gain experience in dealing with different types of charge, and to find that unique personality which ultimately sets one bullfighter apart from the rest.

There are no shortcuts in this profession. Every pass demands a decision, every young bull presents a different challenge, and every afternoon puts those who aspire to succeed to the test once again. Perhaps that is why it is so fascinating to follow those who are still writing their own story: because their full potential has yet to be realised.
