Rodrigo Villalón: Classical Style and Personality from Alicante

Rodrigo Villalón is one of the promising young talents emerging from the Alicante Municipal Bullfighting School. His approach to bullfighting, characterised by a search for purity, composure and naturalness, is beginning to make its mark in bullrings across Spain. Although still at an early stage in his career, the Alicante-born novillero has achieved notable results in competitions for emerging talent and at important bullfighting events.

His development reflects an understanding of bullfighting in which technique serves artistic expression. Taking his time, seeking depth in every muletazo and maintaining his individuality in front of a young fighting bull are among the qualities that define his ambitions.

Bullfighting Biography: A Career That Progresses Season by Season

Rodrigo Villalón's First Steps in Bullfighting

Rodrigo Villalón's passion for bullfighting developed in an environment closely connected with the tradition. From an early age, his father and uncle introduced him to the world of the bulls and helped spark his interest in pursuing the profession.

Over time, that enthusiasm became a vocation, which he decided to develop through formal bullfighting training. Joining the Alicante Municipal Bullfighting School enabled him to work on the technical aspects of the art and gain experience in events designed to develop young talent.

His first public performance took place on 1 December 2024 in Bocairent. It marked the beginning of a career that soon started to produce promising results.

That same year, he achieved one of his first major distinctions by winning the fourth José María Manzanares Novillada Competition in Alicante. The victory recognised his progress and helped raise his profile among students at Spain's bullfighting schools.

2025: His Debut in a Suit of Lights and Further Successes

The 2025 season marked an important stage in the young Alicante-born bullfighter's development. On 20 July, he made his debut in a traditional suit of lights in Añover de Tajo, Toledo, a significant step in his career as a novillero.

Throughout the year, he continued to build up performances and trophies in different towns. His results included two ears and a tail in Nambroca, two ears in La Puebla de Montalbán, and further ears in Otero de Herreros, Alcalá del Júcar, Toledo and Morella.

Another important moment came at the fourth Domingo Ortega Competition in Toledo, where he reached the final and was awarded one ear.

He also made his mark at Alicante's Hogueras Fair, where he took a lap of honour in June. Performing in front of his home crowd strengthened his presence on the novillada circuit for young bullfighters without picadors.

The season also gave him the opportunity to perform in venues with a strong bullfighting tradition, such as Huesca, while gaining experience against different types of fighting cattle.

2026: Rodrigo Villalón Builds on His Progress

The 2026 season has provided fresh momentum for Rodrigo Villalón, with victories at several venues and performances demonstrating his technical development.

Success in Villena: Two Ears in His Home Province

On 22 March 2026, Villalón made his debut in a suit of lights in Villena, in a particularly significant afternoon for the young bullfighter. He faced novillos from the Alcurrucén breeding ranch and was awarded one ear from each of the two bulls in his lot.

His performance against the sixth novillo stood out for its composure and control, particularly during the passages with his left hand. The result earned him an exit from the bullring on supporters' shoulders and marked a highly successful appearance in Alicante province.

The Hogueras Fair: Two Ears in Alicante

On 26 June, Villalón once again impressed at Alicante Bullring during the Hogueras Fair. In a novillada without picadors featuring bulls from Alcurrucén, he showed determination in both appearance.

Valencia: A notable performance at the October Fair

On October 10, 2026, Rodrigo Villalón took part in a novillada sin picadores (a bullfight for novice matadors without the use of mounted lances) held at the Valencia bullring as part of the October Fair.

Facing an animal from the Daniel Ramos ranch, the bullfighter from Alicante delivered a performance of particular artistic merit. His style—rooted in the classical tradition—was distinguished by the quality of his *muletazos* (passes with the *muleta*) and his commitment to guiding the young bull with *temple* (rhythmic composure and control).

However, his use of the sword prevented him from securing a trophy. He took a lap around the arena after receiving a formal warning (*aviso*)—on an afternoon that saw Gitano Rey claim the only ear awarded during the event.

Although he did not add a new trophy to his record, his performance demonstrated his ability to showcase a distinctive, personal style of bullfighting before a demanding audience.
