In the heart of the capital of Cáceres, at Plaza Argel s/n, stands the impressive Cáceres Bullring, also known as the Era de los Mártires. It was inaugurated in 1846 with a line-up featuring José Redondo “El Chiclanero” and Gaspar Díaz “Lavi”. Today, it is a key part of Extremadura’s cultural heritage. Since 1992, the bullring has been listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest due to its historical and architectural value. With a capacity for 7,000 spectators and classified as a second-category venue, it has welcomed great national and international bullfighting figures for over a century and a half. The bullring is currently managed by the company Lances de Futuro, led by José María Garzón, who in recent years has brought back the glory of this historic venue with top-tier line-ups. One of the most eagerly awaited events for local fans is the San Fernando Fair, in honour of the city’s patron saint, held at the end of May. During this festive week, Cáceres comes alive with concerts, fairground attractions, food exhibitions and, of course, the much-anticipated bullfighting events. Traditionally, two bullfights are held, and in 2025 the confirmed dates are Friday 30 May and Sunday 1 June, featuring renowned matadors and prestigious cattle ranches. One of the most memorable performances in recent years was by Emilio de Justo in 2022, a local torero, who delivered a powerful and emotional display that received a standing ovation from a fully engaged audience.

How to get there:

The bullring is located just a few minutes from the centre of Cáceres. It is easily accessible on foot from the old town. If you are coming from outside the city, you can park nearby or use the local bus services, as several lines connect the area with the rest of the city. Using a car is not essential, making the visit convenient for all fans.

What to know before attending a bullfight in Cáceres

It is advisable for users to check the entry conditions for minors and people with reduced mobility directly with the bullring.
