Monday, 6 October – Novillada without picadors
Young bulls from Bernardino Píriz for David Sejas, Miguel Remiro, and Ángel Alarcón. The youthful heartbeat of bullfighting pulses strong here, with three novilleros determined to make their mark. Ideal for those who want raw, unfiltered bullfighting at its most authentic.
What does a bullfight consist of?
In bullfighting, a novillada without picadors is a minor event in which novillos (young bulls, between two and three years old) are fought, but there is no participation from the mounted picadors in the first stage.
Main characteristics:
- Type of bull: These are younger, smaller bulls with less weight than a fully mature fighting bull.
- First stage (tercio de varas): The stage with the mounted picadors is removed; instead, a simulated lance is performed on foot with a smaller rod, or the fight goes directly to the banderillas stage.
- Purpose: To train and prepare young bullfighters (novilleros without horses), giving them experience before their debut with picadors.
- Length of the faena: Usually shorter than in a formal bullfight, but the development is very similar, including the banderillas stage and the muleta stage.
- Audience: Ideal for newcomers or young fans, as these events are more affordable and have a more relaxed atmosphere than a full bullfight.
