Álvaro Chinchón was born in a town in the Madrid region where bullfighting forms part of the local cultural identity. This is no minor detail: growing up in a place with a strong bullfighting tradition can bring a young person closer to the atmosphere of the bullring, conversations among aficionados and the realities of a profession that demands far more than enthusiasm alone.

The El Juli Foundation’s Bullfighting School has played an important role in Álvaro de Chinchón’s professional development. There, he acquired technical skills and continued his training in preparation for taking the step up to novilladas with picadors, a decisive stage in the career of any novillero.

27 March 2022 marks a pivotal date in Álvaro de Chinchón’s career. On that day, he made his debut as a novillero with picadors in Alalpardo, as part of the Community of Madrid’s Novilladas Circuit.

He shared the bill with Rubén Núñez and fought novillos from the El Estoque and Bellalucía ranches. His tally was one ear and a lap of honour, a result that allowed him to begin this new stage of his career on a positive note.

Making one’s debut with picadors represents a significant turning point in a novillero’s career. From that moment on, expectations rise and consistency becomes even more important. It is no longer simply a matter of demonstrating potential, but of developing a distinctive style of bullfighting and responding effectively to different bulls and situations.

It remains to be seen how his career will develop and what further performances he will add to his record. What is documented is that he has already experienced successful afternoons in the ring and gained valuable experience as part of his development. His challenge now is to build on that progress, achieve greater consistency and establish his own identity in front of the bull.
